At 145 Central Park West, two apartment units were combined to create a full-floor residence in the San Remo. The large area of the apartment is humanized by creating two sets of enfilades, one around the interior core and one around the perimeter walls. The detailing is inspired by elements of the exterior and the lobby of the building, creating an interior atmosphere that relates strongly to the building as a whole. The apartment also functions as a private gallery to exhibit a prized collection of paintings by Henry Osawa Tanner, the first African-American painter accepted by the American School in Paris.
Larson and Paul provided architectural services. Decorating by Hugh Henry of Mlinaric, Henry, and Zervudachi, London.
